Joe was a founding member of Fulcrum in 2004, and prior to becoming Managing Partner in 2022, he spent 18 years as the firm’s Chief Operating Officer; managing the teams responsible for risk management, execution trading, operations and compliance. Prior to Fulcrum’s launch, Joe worked for four years at Goldman Sachs Investment Management within the Performance Analysis and Client Reporting department, and previously within the Investment Management Division of Schroders from 1998 to 2000. Joe graduated from Warwick University (1997), received his MSc in Organisational Behaviour from the University of London (2003), and has been a CFA charterholder since 2008.
Suhail is Fulcrum’s Chief Investment Officer and a member of the Fulcrum Investment Team. Prior to joining the firm in 2005, Suhail spent five years in the Investment Management Division of Goldman Sachs. Suhail has a MSc in Management from the London School of Economics & Political Sciences (2000) and he has been a CFA charterholder since 2003.
Nabeel is Deputy CIO and a member of the Fulcrum Investment Team. Prior to joining Fulcrum in 2011 Nabeel worked at Goldman Sachs for four years in the Investment Strategy Group. Nabeel graduated from Warwick University in 2007 with a BSc in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics. He has been a CFA charterholder since 2011.
Gavyn is a Founder and the Chairman of Fulcrum. Prior to Fulcrum, Gavyn was Chairman of the BBC from 2001. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1986 and became Partner in 1988 when he also became the Chief Economist as well as Chairman of the Research Department until he left in 2001. Gavyn was a member of H.M.Treasury Independent Forecasting Panel (1992-1997). He joined the Government’s Policy Unit as an Economist (1974) and was an Economic Policy Adviser to the British Prime Minister (1976-1979). Gavyn graduated in Economics from Cambridge in 1972 followed by two years of research at Oxford.
Andrew is a Founder of Fulcrum and now chairs the Fulcrum Alternative Strategies Investment Committee. Before establishing Fulcrum in 2004, Andrew was at Goldman Sachs (1992–2004) in the Equities then Investment Management Divisions, where he invested across all asset classes. Andrew has an MBA from Harvard Business School (1992) and a BA in Finance from Georgetown University (1988).
Andrew is our Fixed Income Strategist. Before joining Fulcrum in 2006 he spent eleven years as Managing Director and Head of Global Markets Research at Goldman Sachs. Prior to this, Andrew was Managing Director and Head of the Financial Analytics Group at Bear Stearns. Andrew graduated from Reading University with a BA in Economics (1978). He subsequently gained PhDs in Monetary Economics (1986) and Theology (2002).
Piotr is our Chief Risk Officer. Prior to joining Fulcrum in 2015, Piotr was Head of Risk, Europe, at Lombard Odier Asset Management and before that CRO at RAIM. Piotr holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Chicago (1993) and a MS from the University of Warsaw (1987).
Matthew heads up Fulcrum’s sales and marketing. Matthew has been with the multi-asset boutique since June 2015 and has led the drive to expand the UK wholesale business and international distribution across Europe and Japan among other territories. Matthew has 25 years’ experience in the industry including senior roles at Fidelity, UBS and Carmignac.
Emma Pickering is Head of Investor Relations at Fulcrum. Emma was a founder member of Fulcrum in 2004 following three years in the Investment Management Division of Goldman Sachs. Emma graduated from Edinburgh University (1997), has a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from The College of Law (1999), and has been a CFA charterholder since 2009.
Fawaz Chaudhry joined Fulcrum in 2017 and, as Head of Equities, is responsible for building the firm’s equity capability. A key member of the broader investment team, Fawaz is also the lead portfolio manager for the Fulcrum Thematic Equity Market Neutral Fund and Fulcrum Climate Change Fund. Prior to joining Fulcrum, Fawaz spent over fifteen years developing his long-term, thematic investment approach, including at Hadron Capital and Moore Capital.
Juan Antolin-Diaz joined Fulcrum in 2012 and, as Head of Research, is responsible for the research, development, and design elements of Fulcrum’s fund offering. As part of that effort, he leads the research team’s development of quantitative models for systematic investing, asset allocation and macroeconomic monitoring. An expert in quantitative macroeconomics, he has published scientific articles in top peer-reviewed journals including the American Economic Review, the Journal of Monetary Economics and The Review of Economics and Statistics. Prior to joining Fulcrum, Juan worked in the Directorate-General Economics of the European Central Bank in Frankfurt and at the Foundation for Applied Economic Research (FEDEA) in Madrid. He graduated from the London School of Economics & Political Science with an MSc in Economics in 2011 and from Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2010 with a BSc in Economics.
Phil Strother joined Fulcrum in 2015. He heads up the Portfolio Engineering team and is co-portfolio manager on the Fulcrum Multi-Asset Trend Fund and the Fulcrum Risk Premia Fund. With over 20 years’ investment experience, Phil has previously worked at AHL, COMAC Capital, JPMorgan and BNP Paribas. Phil holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Imperial College London and an M.Sc. in Finance from the London Business School.
Stephen Crewe joined Fulcrum in 2013. He is the lead portfolio manager for our Fulcrum Income Fund and Fulcrum Equity Dispersion Fund, in addition to being an integral member of the broader investment team, where his focus is on volatility strategies. Prior to joining Fulcrum, Stephen spent over two decades with F&C/BMO as Director of Alternatives.
Matthew is Head of Fulcrum Alternative Solutions. Before joining Fulcrum in 2018 to run Fulcrum Alternative Solutions, Matthew had been a Portfolio Manager for the Towers Watson Partners Fund since 2014 and before that a manager researcher in fixed income, hedge funds and other alternatives since 2005. Matthew holds a BSc in Economics and Finance (2005) from University of Bristol. He has been a CFA charterholder since 2009.
